Kampala, Thursday 19 March 2020 — As our nation prepares to confront the novel coronavirus pandemic outbreak, we expect a negative impact on both our economy and business as usual in Uganda. As Yo-Waste, we pride ourselves in providing reliable & affordable waste collection services to homes and businesses throughout Kampala with our mobile app.
The current guidelines set aside by the president of the Republic of Uganda on Wednesday 18th March 2020 5 pm have affected us in one or two ways.
Yo-Waste business premises are located at Makerere University, College of Computing Block B level 5, following the announcement, the president directed the immediate closure of the university premises which may affect access to our business premises soon.
As such Yo-Waste has set aside a few measures to continue servicing our growing customers in Kampala throughout this hard period. Yo-Waste has a full time working force of 6 staff who see every day to day operations of the business, as such we have made important hard decisions to protect the wellbeing of our staff while still servicing our customers.
As you all know, waste collection is a service that can never be postponed for tomorrow. Keeping trash uncollected leads to deterioration of our sanitation as a community which may result in other dangerous disease outbreaks like cholera.
With immediate effect today, as we comply with the government, set guidelines, we have decided on the following:-
- Remote Work Schedules: We have asked all our staff to continue working remotely to provide high-quality customer services with our remote working schedules.
2. Coronavirus Safety Tips: We shall also be sharing tips from WHO on coronavirus on our social media profiles to ensure the wellbeing of our customers & all other fellows Ugandans.
3. Access to sanitizer products: We shall also be adding sanitizer products to our e-store to increase access to sanitation services for all people in areas we serve.
4. External party dependencies: We will continue to work with our waste collection partners to understand any potential impact on their services, as we work on a backup plan in case of unavoidable disruptions.
Note: Yo-Waste will continue to provide waste collection services to all it’s customers through their mobile app even though their staff will be working remotely during this 30 day period lockdown at their premises.
Remember to keep safe and alive because every life matters. Wash your hands regularly and avoid being in places with more than 10 people. Together we can fight the spread of this virus.
